Saltire
The symbol "X" is known as the Saltire, or Saint Andrew’s Cross, and is most famously recognized as the national flag of Scotland. Historically, it represents the crucifixion of Saint Andrew, who, according to tradition, requested to be martyred on a diagonal cross out of humility. In UI design, the Saltire "X" can denote close, exit, or cancel actions in history-inspired interfaces.
